What I Couldn't Say
I know first birthdays are big to Moms all over the world, but Alexa's was super big to me. As I was putting the finishing touches on her party on Saturday, I couldn't stop thinking about how lucky we were to be chosen to raise her by both God and her birth parents. I knew I wanted to say a few words at her party about how fortunate we are to have Alexa in our lives and how much her first birthday meant to us, but I got too choked up to get it out.
So, these are the words my heart was too full to say in the moment: I feel so blessed to be her Momma. She is a beautiful little girl, inside and out. She is intense and lighthearted. She keeps us on our toes and never misses a chance to make us laugh with her infectious giggle. She lengthens our days with the warmth of her hugs and shortens our lives with her lack of fear and daredevil ways. She is exactly what Picard and I needed to make our family complete. Thank you to all of our friends and family who were able to celebrate with us the magic that is our family.

Actually,Amie dear, I felt like you said all of this in just a word or two. You communicated all of it when you thanked everyone for coming to Alexa's birthday party...then you stopped to collect yourself a little, and said,"I think you all understand why Alexa is so special..."
We were all with you in that moment. I know that I knew exactly what you meant. Love, Mama-Pat
