Meet Miss Dior: a fashionista with a Data-like logical side. Married to Captain Picard: a Linux lord with Jean-Luc Picard patience. On a chilly January night in 2005, a journey through space and time began for us when we decided to expand our family through adoption. Our journey to find the child meant for us has led us all over the galaxy, but in the end, we've come back home to adopt a child domestically.

My First Mother's Day!

Momma, we got you Kolaches!

Today was the most beautiful day. A day dedicated to Moms. And for the first time, rather than celebrating all of the great Moms that I know, I got to celebrate me. ME! A mom! I just love the way that sounds.

There were times during the day where I was overcome by waves of emotion. It's hard to believe that I really AM a Mom sometimes. After wanting this role for so long, I have to say it is absolutely and positively everything I could want it to be. It's fulfilling, challenging, inspiring, life-altering and beautiful.

At the same time I can't believe I'm a Mom, I can't help but laugh because I am SOOO a Mom now. After eating a delicious breakfast of Kolaches, I zoomed around to get ready to got to the zoo. Of course, we were already running behind so I didn't shower. I slicked my hair back into a ponytail. Slapped on some makeup. Grabbed a pair of jeans from the dirty pile off the floor. (And yes, they had visible dirt.) Chose a t-shirt that was comfortable. Yes, comfortable. Not fashionable. Then threw on a jean jacket to keep warm. Then, with big smiles announced, OK, I'm ready, let's go!!

Alexa eating Dipping Dots ice cream. Her expression says it all.
I think she'd rather have broccoli.

The funny thing about taking Alexa to the zoo is that she enjoys watching people more than the animals. We didn't really get a big smile out of her until we took her to the gift shop to pick out a toy. Picking out a toy at the gift shop was a symbolic way to bring my perfect day full circle. Before Alexa, Picard and I used to go to the zoo and buy stuffed animals for our future daughter. Today, we let her pick one out for herself.

You see Momma, it's not really an animal unless I can snuggle with it.

Alexa chose the tiger in a purse pictured below. She's really pretty good at choosing what she likes best. While she smiled at a lot of toys, she cried when we took this one away. That's how we knew it was a keeper.

It's a tiger.....in a purse??

I yike it Momma. I yike it!
