Meet Miss Dior: a fashionista with a Data-like logical side. Married to Captain Picard: a Linux lord with Jean-Luc Picard patience. On a chilly January night in 2005, a journey through space and time began for us when we decided to expand our family through adoption. Our journey to find the child meant for us has led us all over the galaxy, but in the end, we've come back home to adopt a child domestically.

Not So Momentous

Daddy taking multi-tasking to the max this morning before our visit.

Today was our in-home social worker visit to finalize our adoption. It was such a funny juxtaposition to our home study visit. When we had our home study visit I think we cleaned the house with a toothbrush, wore our best clothes and sat bolt upright like we had metal rods in our spines (because people with good posture are trustworthy and sure to be good parents, right?)

For this visit, the one to assure that we ARE good parents, we did almost nothing. I did a little Swiffer action on the floor to pick up the cat hair tumbleweeds and a quick swipe of the visible surfaces to be sure that the dust didn't stack any higher than 1/4 inch, but that was it. My theory was (because good lord, I have to have a theory for everything) that we're parents now. Our house isn't supposed to be sparkling clean. We're not supposed to sit up straight. We're supposed to be tired. And for wearing our best clothes? Picard proudly wore a drool stain on his shirt sleeve and I had fresh regurgitated milk on my pants leg.

You'd think it would be a momentous occasion with another fulfilling large, red check off the ever long adoption to-do list. But that's not how I felt at all. Because at the end of the day, I can't get my mind to fathom that Alexa isn't OFFICIALLY ours. We might need our paperwork finished and to attend the court date on November 13 to make it official, but this kid is undeniably ours. So, instead of being nervous and cleaning the house, I saved up my energy to talk incessantly about our fabulous Al jr. and how she fits perfectly in our lives as though we were a 999 piece jigsaw puzzle before her arrival and are now a perfectly complete family picture.

So close! The pea is very close to rolling over. Check out the twisty back action! I couldn't time the camera quite right with her leg folded way over the back. I might need a faster camera for these types of action capturing operations.

Yes, I can tell how perfectly she has become part of your lives. Isn't it something? Before, Al couldn't fathom having a little intruder in his home. Now I bet he can't imagine your lives without her! All of my friends exclaim over how pretty she is. All 3 of you are pretty, of course.
Love you all so much! G-Mama-Pat
