Picard I spent our fourth of July weekend doing all of the things we won't be able to do when our wee one joins our lives. I always hear couples with children say, I don't even remember what our life was like before we had children. I thought it would be fun to chronicle our holiday weekend to capture the essence of Picard and Dior without children. Since it was a holiday weekend, we kicked it up a notch and played real renegades by going out with reckless abandon three nights in a row with three different groups of friends.
Friday we dragged ourselves out of bed at a lazy 10 a.m. and lounged around for a few hours before eating a frozen pizza for brunch. We decided to spend a date day together shopping at an outlet mall. (You know Picard doesn't pay full price for those Polo's he wears.) Picard got a new long sleeve Polo shirt for work. I got a green Polo dress and a chic pair of grey Calvin Klein pants. We ate an early dinner at Max & Erma's and then headed back north to drink sangria with our friends at their bar. We didn't stagger home until 2 a.m. It was the type of night you don't really remember that well and you're probably glad you don't.
After the sangria-fest Friday night, we crawled out of bed at noon on Saturday. I was feeling a bit under the weather, if you will, and went back to bed until 2 p.m. Picard left me behind to recuperate and went to buy a bike he's been lusting after for months and then went to another friend's annual fourth of July party. (And no - not a fancy motorcycle - a bicycle.) I lazily and dizzily dragged my butt out of bed in the late afternoon, showered and the joined him at the party. Due to my "delicate condition," I spent Saturday laughing at everyone else, eating Cheez-its and drinking Sprite.
Sunday, Picard and I made a feeble attempt to run some errands, but really just ended up spinning our tires until it was time for me to leave for my third party. The Sunday night event was a celebration of all the amazing things my boss and friend accomplished while she was at the organization we both used to work for. (Picard was not invited to this event, so he stayed home and did responsible things like clean my car and the bathrooms.) We had a great time reminiscing, eating sheesh kabobs and drinking wine. It was a beautiful and celebratory end to our independence weekend.
The problem with all of this fun-ness is that it's Tuesday morning, my house is a mess, my laundry isn't done, the bills need paid and we have no groceries in the house. So, maybe with or without children you get to the same end results.....it's just the journey that is different. But I say with confidence, after this weekend, Picard and I are both ready for that new journey.
In other news, I must welcome my nephew Cole Aaden to the family! I don't have any pictures yet, but he was born yesterday morning and weighed 6lbs 9 oz. I hear he is beautiful! We'll be visiting and snuggling this weekend.
