Meet Miss Dior: a fashionista with a Data-like logical side. Married to Captain Picard: a Linux lord with Jean-Luc Picard patience. On a chilly January night in 2005, a journey through space and time began for us when we decided to expand our family through adoption. Our journey to find the child meant for us has led us all over the galaxy, but in the end, we've come back home to adopt a child domestically.

Updates and Pics From the Past Few Days

Look ma, two hands!

Yesterday Captain Picard was able to get his fiberglass cast off his hand and the screws removed from his bones. He said it was even more painful than it sounds. He'll do a bit of rehab, but otherwise it seems like his hand is well healed and should be completely functional in the next few weeks. Although he was more functional with one hand than anybody I have ever met, it's nice that he's back to two hands before wee one gets placed in our arms.

How can it be?

Ladies you're not going to believe this! I just completed a shoe organization project and determined that I only own 17 pairs of shoes! How can that be? I really would have guessed the number to be 50 or above! To add salt to my wounds, Picard has 10 pairs of shoes, more than half the number that I have! I see some shoe shopping in my future, that's for sure.

The shoe shelf you see above is in our garage. One of our baby preparedness projects was to clean our front closet, where we usually store our shoes and move the shoes to our garage. We always come into our house through the garage, so it makes sense for functionality. But it also gives us more room in the house to store and "hide" baby stuff when we feel the need.

Now we're getting down to business!

In other baby preparedness news, my darling sister has purchased a combo stroller and car seat set for us! It's an adorable combination of pink and brown. I went ahead and put the car seat in my car to get used to having it there. Although, I haven't buckled it in yet so I look like a renegade mom with my car seat weaving and tipping from side to side. The next step will be learning how to use this complex device and the fancy ways it combines with our new stroller.

Trying to earn my summer personal pan pizza in book club

Back in grade school, I used to get rewarded with a personal pan pizza for every few books I read. It was a summer reading program sponsored by our local library. No pizza these days, just my own personal fulfillment. Maybe that's where my love to read multiple books at once was born. I've been reading through the "What to Expect During the First Year Book" and "Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems" to prepare for baby. (Thanks Lori for the book suggestions. I'm loving the Baby Whisperer.) To really get my heart beating rapidly and add get my full reading fix, I stopped by the local library to get a business book and a good fictional story. I've got all four going at once and will probably crank through them in a week or two.

Glad to see that Picard is recovering nicely. He will definately two hands when the little one decides to pay a visit.
I think I'm as anxious as you, I can't wait to see the pictures and hopefully one day get to hold her. I know at some point a visit to Disney will be the plans - start saving your pennys (well may $10's) as you have to visit Bippy Bobbity Boutiuque!

Oh my gosh, you have a pumpkin seat in your car. ROCK on. It will probably stay that beautiful color of pink for at least a week. Maybe even 9 days. Just jokes. Kelly's is pink, and I wish I would have put Sara in a pink seat. Pretty!

I'm too excited! Lori
