Meet Miss Dior: a fashionista with a Data-like logical side. Married to Captain Picard: a Linux lord with Jean-Luc Picard patience. On a chilly January night in 2005, a journey through space and time began for us when we decided to expand our family through adoption. Our journey to find the child meant for us has led us all over the galaxy, but in the end, we've come back home to adopt a child domestically.

I heard her heartbeat and fell in love

I spent another long night at the hospital with our cutie-petutie BM. (I gave my sweet Picard the night off to get caught up on sleep because he was starting to look 100 years old with the bags under his eyes.) She was feeling like her contractions had progressed, but fortunately, they had not. They observed her for about four hours and said she was still at the same point as Monday night.

I think this pregnancy is much different than our BM's first pregnancy and she is feeling the labor preparation stage much more. The baby has visibly dropped and there is a bit of dilation, but all of that is fairly normal. I think we'll squeeze out a few more weeks before we meet our wee sweet pea. I did get some comforting information about the due date last night too. BM originally had a July due date, but when she had her ultrasound they pushed it back a few weeks because the baby was small. BM's first child was born on the small side but 100% healthy. So, BM feels the original due date was more accurate and fits better with when she feels she got pregnant. So, we may not be as preterm as it seems.

So, good medical reports aside, I heard our baby's heart beat for the first time last night! It was the most beautiful sound. It's funny how the heartbeat actually sounds like it's coming from under water. The nurse said the heartbeat sounded great and she sounded like a happy baby. Not sure how the heartbeat indicates a happy baby, but it sure made me a happy mom.

A) Good for you letting Alan sleep! That was our biggest mistake with Sara. We tried too hard to "hang in there together" rather than divide and conquer. We paid the price for not trading off on sleep.
B) HOW EXCITING! YEAH! Heartbeats are fun to hear. I can still imagine Kelly's in my head. I knew. I could hear joy in her heartbeat. It was as if she was smiling at me the whole time. Sara's sounded a little pissed off. Hmmm....correct.

I just can't wait. I think about her and you guys every day. Please keep writing! I'm glad you're getting to experience some excitement leading up to the big day! It must make it more real.

Love, Lori

naminamimommyFrom one Mom to another:
When Alan was born, I saw him smirking in the mirror at the end of the delivery table. I kid you not...smirking... already! I knew from that second on that he would be a confident and fashion-crazed man-about-town. Then 3 and a half years later, his brother Aaron flew out so fast that the doctor, who arrived just in the nick of time, caught him in a basket! I'm sure that Baby Girl will display a style of her own, too. Perhaps Ms. Dior's and Cap'n Picard's child will arrive fully clothed and coiffed, ready for the good life with her beautiful mama and handsome dad. Granny & Grandpa Herr can hardly stand the wait, either! Soon you'll be a family of three...
