Meet Miss Dior: a fashionista with a Data-like logical side. Married to Captain Picard: a Linux lord with Jean-Luc Picard patience. On a chilly January night in 2005, a journey through space and time began for us when we decided to expand our family through adoption. Our journey to find the child meant for us has led us all over the galaxy, but in the end, we've come back home to adopt a child domestically.

Closing the Door on Old Dreams

When one door closes another door opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us. ~Alexander Graham Bell

And sometimes, we so hesitate to proactively close a door we can't see the myriad of other doors just waiting to open. ~Miss Dior's addendum to above famous phrase

This weekend is an important one. Picard and I know that we are now making changes that will impact the rest of our lives. We are choosing to close the door on China.

For me, it was important to have a physical rite of passage from one door to another. So, I packed up all of my Chinese books, calendars, clothing and toys. Physically putting them away signals to my mind that we have made an official decision and opens my soul to the possibility of the future.

On Monday, I will make the call to our Chinese adoption agency and ask them to close our file. That will probably be the hardest part.

Two roads diverged. We looked long and hard. And then we chose a path. May our hearts open to the possibilities that God has in store.
