Meet Miss Dior: a fashionista with a Data-like logical side. Married to Captain Picard: a Linux lord with Jean-Luc Picard patience. On a chilly January night in 2005, a journey through space and time began for us when we decided to expand our family through adoption. Our journey to find the child meant for us has led us all over the galaxy, but in the end, we've come back home to adopt a child domestically.

Acting like parents?

I dare say we have spent part of our weekend acting like people who are going to be parents. It's so.... what's the word?.....Refreshing! Having a child is starting to feel real again. It's like finding your way out of a dark and gloomy cloud led by the smallest hint of sunshine.

We talked about some baby names and put together a short list. We even went shopping for baby furniture! We started at Pottery Barn Kids for inspiration and then went to Target for a reality check. In the end, we only bought a small baby wash kit. And that was really because I wanted something in the house that smelled like a baby. Well, not the dirty diaper part. You know, the good part.

Since we're not able to select a gender with domestic adoption, we need to put together a room that is gender neutral. We've tentatively decided to go with a stripes and dots design. Green will be the primary color. If it's a girl we'll accent with pink. If it's a boy we'll accent with blue.

The coolest part is that Target has a designer baby collection by Dwell Studio right now. I didn't recognize the name initially, but it is designed by the same company that creates the ultra modern baby high chair I put on the blog a few months ago. Super big bonus is that the collection is a lot less expensive at Target. Check out our fun favorites pictured below!

This is the crib I told mom I was gonna tell you about. Good choice. Great for long term use. Remember you have toddler furniture covered if you have a girl!

Hey Guys,

Next get a rocking chair with the lowest arms and softest padding you can find. With a footstool! Soft halogen adjustable lighting, so you can read while you endlessly rock your baby! Low arms for pillow propping and boppy balancing. Whatever you spend on it, it won't be enough, I promise. You might want to start practice rocking now, so you can work up to the HOURS you will spend in it in the near future. Hold a wildebeest as a proxy baby.

I'M SO EXCITED!!!!! Love, Lori

It's "refreshing" to hear the happiness and love in your writing. Shopping for babies is so much fun, even funnier when they aren't yours - just ask Mike and Brooke. Aunt Gloria likes to spoil them and babysit. Wishing we were closer so I could get that change to babysit. Well maybe some day. Only good days ahead!!!

Getting to this point has been such an incredible journey for you two and just amazing to watch. You've had such heart-wrenching moments over the past few months, which makes the joy and lightness that you are finding now even more powerful and beautiful. I'm so happy for you both! -Dana
