Meet Miss Dior: a fashionista with a Data-like logical side. Married to Captain Picard: a Linux lord with Jean-Luc Picard patience. On a chilly January night in 2005, a journey through space and time began for us when we decided to expand our family through adoption. Our journey to find the child meant for us has led us all over the galaxy, but in the end, we've come back home to adopt a child domestically.

Month One - A Fresh Start

Saturday, September 1 started our first full month of waiting. Although the first few weeks after getting our log-in-date were really hard as I contemplated and counted how long 21 months would feel, I now have a fresh perspective and plan of action. As my sister pointed out, 21 months from now is May 2009. I will either get the greatest gift of my life for my 32nd birthday or will get an early birthday surprise! So, my job is to make the time in between meaningful so I can truly enjoy being a mother when the time comes, the way my heart tells me I will.

Mission #1 - No regrets! Being a mother surely means that I will have to reduce the time and money I spend on self-maintenance, even though I vow to be a Prada Mom! If it's not in the cards for me to be a Mom right now, then I'll undertake a makeover that rivals the comeback of Isaac Mizrahi! I've started the research process (Yes, I even conduct research for a makeover) and have a solid plan and timeline in place. Everything is open and available for change with this makeover. My hair appointment is September 20, so prepare to meet my tres-chic, alter-ego September 21!

French Women Don't Get Fat and British Vogue-Critical research for my metamorphosis.

Mission #2 - Sleep in! Picard and I got to take advantage of the beautiful weather this weekend and get some extra sleep. There is no better feeling than waking up to a sun-drenched room with a cool, crisp, pre-autumn breeze dancing across your bed.

Mission #3 - Make an interim guest room! Since a baby will eventually occupy our largest spare bedroom, we need to create an alternate guest room for the proud grandparents and others who visit. Well, my Mom and her husband visited this weekend which pushed the timeline for this project up quite a bit, resulting in a compromise in quality. Check out the fab new bed below. Hot, right? I do have to say, though, that there is a benefit beyond immediacy, which is the ability to test it out in the smaller guest room to know what size bed will work best. (You've all heard the story about us buying a refrigerator that was too big for our house and an electric stove for a gas hook-up, right? Test runs are a good thing in our world.)

The more ghetto than fabulous inflatable bed.

Mission #4 - Make my first major baby purchase! I've been lusting after this high chair for more than a year now. It's an ultra-chic Swedish design. It does come with posh padding, so don't worry that we'll have our lovely's bottom on raw wood. This chair is from a hip little baby catalog called Paper Moon Baby. Check it out at www.papermoonbaby.com. This chair is one of those items I will deeply regret not buying if it's gone two years from now. So, one of these bad boys will find a new home in the house of Picard and Dior in the very near future.

FYI:
You may want to schedule Miss Ava's first hair cut with Pure Rituals 2 1/2 years in advance since Cheri is always booked into the future!
Love ya,
