Meet Miss Dior: a fashionista with a Data-like logical side. Married to Captain Picard: a Linux lord with Jean-Luc Picard patience. On a chilly January night in 2005, a journey through space and time began for us when we decided to expand our family through adoption. Our journey to find the child meant for us has led us all over the galaxy, but in the end, we've come back home to adopt a child domestically.

Good News!

I just checked my e-mail and got quite a nice surprise - our paperwork has been delivered to the Chinese Center of Adoption Affairs (CCAA). This e-mail says that we should have a log-in date within two weeks, rather than four. I have to say this e-mail, unlike the last one, makes me feel a bit excited. I like the idea of our paperwork being in China at the appropriate office. A full representation of the Picard and Dior union is now at the fingertips of the Chinese officials. They can see our faces (through pictures) and read about how we plan to incorporate our future Chinese daughter into our lives. Whoooooooo....that's a sigh of relief. It's like our paperwork has found its way home.

Speaking of home, this family is definitely honing it's nesting instincts. Well, Picard would say that we're getting crap done while we still have the time, energy and money to do it. I say that we're preparing our home for the most beautiful welcome to our future wee one.

Here are the pictures of the latest updates:

New roof, paint and gutters all seamlessly working together to modernize our humble abode
Our new light fixtures, updated from brassy gold to satin nickel. If there's a slightly Asian feel to the design, I assure that is completely coincidental. The address plate is next.

What great news, Ms. Dior! Only 2 instead of a 4-8 week tie-up. This is very encouraging!
Love, Mama-Patt

Alan just couldn't spend years working at a major homebuilder without letting all that useful knowledge sink in... First cable, then lights, wait until he buys a table saw...
