Meet Miss Dior: a fashionista with a Data-like logical side. Married to Captain Picard: a Linux lord with Jean-Luc Picard patience. On a chilly January night in 2005, a journey through space and time began for us when we decided to expand our family through adoption. Our journey to find the child meant for us has led us all over the galaxy, but in the end, we've come back home to adopt a child domestically.

Eau de Picard and Dior & Practicing Parent Skills

So what have we been doing in the long pause since our last post? Well, paperwork. And fingerprints. And then fingerprints again. Oh, on Thursday we have to get fingerprints. That's right. When it's all said and done we'll have been fingerprinted 3-4 times. Besides the ink that is permanently fixed on the grooves of our fingertips, things are coming along well. We should be finished with the paperwork gathering in the next week or two and then it's notarizing and certifying.

I thought a fun way for everyone to participate in the adoption is to help us decide what type of pictures we should include in our dossier. We need two pictures of me and Picard by ourselves and then eight family life pictures. We both have to be in every picture. We want the pictures to be a good representation of who we are because the pictures are relied on heavily when choosing
what child we should be matched with. So how do we capture the "eau de family picard and dior?" Just leave us a comment on the comments page with your idea of how to capture our essence on film. OH, by the way, don't be surprised if we ask to borrow your kids for a picture or two if you live near us. WAIT - if you have kids that we might want to borrow (you know who you are) please don't read any further. It might change your mind.

Mommy's Practice
Trying out my "Mamarazzi" (a new word I just learned...don't you love it?) role by taking a million pictures of the kids

Here are my girls snuggling together for a nap

It's so cute my heart hurts

Daddy's Practice
Trying out the "getting a little dirty one clean" role

Daddy's first guess at how a dirty little one gets clean. We had to talk to him about this one.

There we go! Daddy figures out the right way to wash the wee one.

Daddy gets the "I'll stay clean next time, I promise!" face

See, we can handle this parenting thing! No prob!
Don't forget to leave us picture ideas!

Too cute!! Picard, I have no doubt you'll be a great dad...you're already far ahead of my dad, who promptly whipped out the vacuum cleaner the first time he had to deal with child-produced vomit (and the child was 10 years old!!). Who knows what he would have done had he thought about the washing machine! Dior, the infinitely happy kitties are absolutely a sign of what a great mommy you'll be...especially with a Dior bottle in tow!! At least one little China baby will be a very lucky girl! :)

First, try not to look too clean. Real parents have strings of snot on their clothes. Second, look really haggard and tired. Real kids never sleep! Finally, spread some peanut butter around...just generally everywhere, and snap away! Sara is very photogenic. You're welcome anytime. We'll provide the peanut butter at no cost. Best, Greg & Lori

Available kids? No problem! Taylor and Nolan love babysitters! Taylor could use a good lesson on makeup and she always loves her nails polished! =) I think you have posted more pictures here than I have of my own kids. =) Let me know if you want me to bring them over. I love this blog! Kelly
