Year of the Pig

I can think of no better way to start my very first post than to share the Chinese proverb that has been running through my mind as I labored over our application: A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Indeed. Today, we mailed our adoption application. It's going to be a very long journey from here. But, more importanty, we have taken our first step.
The picture above shows the painstaking focus and detail I put into the application. I woudn't allow a close-up (you know there's no close-ups without makeup and this picture was taken on a beauty-free Sunday), but you can still see the absolute focus and completely hunched over posture.
And here's where I get myself in trouble with all of this. I started counting today. OK- the agency will get the application in two days. So they'll have it by Thursday. Then, they have two weeks to review it. By March 15, we'll get word that we can move forward. Why can't I let go of the foolishness that I have any control over this whole process? The sooner I can accept that I don't, the happier I'll be.
So for now, I choose to focus on the positive vibe from the year of the pig. According to Wikipedia, the pig is associated with fertility and virility in Chinese culture. To bear children in the year of the pig is considered very fortunate, for they will be happy and honest. My hope is that the good fortune transfers over to the pursuit of an adopted child.
